A postcard arrived from Belgium that had been got in Italy . . . it was from my old penpal Katrijn. Before I even saw her name, I knew it was her on account of her penmanship is probably the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. I remember thinking that when she first sent a letter to my P.O. box in Portland over a decade ago. She was a total stranger who had reached out to me simply because she had something to say and figured I would be the kind of person who felt the same way about life as she did. She was right. And I remember her handwriting was so beautiful I could hardly believe it. We have been good friends ever since.

Anyway . . .

I don’t think she would mind if I quoted the final part of her postcard:

We hope our paths will cross again before this year is over. Our friendship is too precious to be lost to the nightmares that haunt us, now that the world is burning!

Whoa . . .

Well: Katrijn, my old friend! You got nothing to worry about. Our friendship will last until the sun absolutely sets on Time itself. OK?!

I’ll send you and your cute little family a postcard from Italy!!!
